Confronting Religious Violence
Preserve. Promote. Protect.

Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York invites you to participate in a two-day meeting Friday, October 2 - Saturday, October 3, 2015 to make an investigation into religiously motivated violence. This is a student-led event presenting a series of speakers and round table discussions in a religious, scholarly and political inquiry that looks at the history of co-existence of different religions  in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. The meeting is particularly focused on the current crisis in Iraq and Syria.

Our opening keynote speaker is Union alumnus Mark Juergensmeyer.

As a key goal, this conference is being convened to demand of stake-holders and religious leaders an “inter-religious theological response” that pushes against the rise in religious violence and galvanizes global action on this issue.

Mission

Location

The conference is a gathering of academic resources towards the development of a inter-religious theological response to crisis in Iraq and Syria. The conference will identify reliable regional and inter-religious partners to develop strategies to provide humanitarian support in all its facets (legal, political, social, economic, healthcare related, spiritual) to those in the affected areas.

The meeting takes place at Union Theological Seminary, 121st street & Broadway in Manhattan across the street from Columbia University's main campus.
