Preserve. Promote. Protect.

Is religious violence real or a myth?
What should be our common effort?
Is there opportunity or only tragedy in the crisis in Iraq and Syria?

Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York invites you to participate in a two day meeting to investigate religiously motivated violence.  Shiites are executed daily and middle-eastern Christian communities are being destroyed, while the greatest violence is reserved for those considered "bad Sunnis" by other Muslim groups.

We are presenting a series of speakers and roundtable discussions in a religious, scholarly and political enquiry that looks at the history of co-existence of different religions in the Middle-East, Africa and Asia. The meeting is particularly focused on the current crisis in Iraq and Syria. Killings of a massive number of innocent people in Syria and Iraq by ISIS and the alarming increase of the refugees seeking safety in the surrounding countries have shocked the whole world.

We hope this scholarly endeavor will lead to policy-making and advocacy, producing well-informed actions.
